Description:
Hilda Kou and Luke Gitakulu talk about pregnancy and childbirth. They are sitting in an open meeting house in Nyimââ village, sheltering under the eaves from the rain.
The project documents oral texts on traditions and daily life in the Reef Islands, covering 8 villages and 73 speakers ranging in age from 15 to 93. The materials were recorded in September-October 2015.
Hilda Kou explains customs and practices surrounding pregnancy and childbirth in the Reef Islands before there were western-style clinics and doctors, while Luke Gitakulu asks questions. Photos of Hilda Kou and Luke Gitakulu.
