Description:
This session is a recording of the worship of Kanya. Kanya is closely associated with the goddess called Jalpa debi. She is sometimes regarded as her daughter. Without having worshipped Kanya, other worship is not performed, so it is very important. In this case it is worshipped on the occasion of the Pani Magne ('Asking for Rain'), but it is also worshipped during Baisakhe Purne ('Full Moon of Baisakh in April-May'), Bhadaure Purne ('Full Moon of Bhadau in August-September'), but it is also worshipped on a smaller scale daily, except on Sundays and the New Moon of each month. Even though the ritual is performed by the temple priest (DBN) inside the temple, the ritual invocation (mundum) is chanted by the chambak (shaman) BBR. The larger part of the recording shows the preperations for the worship. The invocation in ritual language starts only in the latter part of the recording, 0:18:00.
