Description: |
The recording took place behind the windscreen under the roof outside the researcher's house around 9:30 in the morning. Due
to technical problems with the audio recording device there is only a video recording of this session. The session is of linguistic
as well as cultural value to the Awetí Project.
This project aims at the documentation of the Awetí Language, a Tupian language of a small speech community in central Brazil.
It is funded for the years from November 2000 to March 2005 by the VolkswagenStiftung in the Documentation of Endangered Languages
Programme. The principal researcher, Sebastian Drude, initiated his research among the Awetí in 1998. The assistant researcher,
Sabine Reiter, started to work in the project in 2001.
This file was generated from an IMDI 1.9 file and transformed to IMDI 3.0. The substructure of Genre is replaced by two elements
named "Genre" and "SubGenre". The original content of Genre substructure was: Interactional = 'interview, consultation', Discursive
= 'explanation', Performance = 'Unspecified'. These values have been added as Keys to the Content information.
045 gives a description of the female activities which vary considerably between the dry and the rainy season. ###
045 gives her description in Awetí. She does not speak Portuguese and also does not understand this language except for a
few words so that Sebastian Drude's remarks and commentaries in Portuguese need to be translated into Awetí for her.
The relationship between 045 and the researcher is not very close. The researchers, however, developed a closer relationship
to her daughter 049 and her stepdaughter Autukumalu during the field trip 2003, since these two worked with them at the transcriptions.
Both women are present at the recording. ###
The main researcher of the Awetí Project. See description of Collector.
045 is married to 042 and at the same time the sister of 083. Therefore and due to the fact that she has got 8 own children
(and 2 children born to her husband and her late younger sister) she is one of the most prestigious women in the Awetí community.
The principal researcher of the Awetí Project. Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter (teaching and research assistant), Free University
Berlin / Germany. Magister Artium in Linguistics (Free University of Berlin, 1997). Two-year DAAD fellowship at Museu Goeldi,
Belém, 1997--1999. PhD in Linguistics (Free University of Berlin, 2002). Initiated field research among the Awetí in 1998.
Field stays: July--October 1998, September--October 1999, June--August 2001, June--August 2002, May--July 2003.
