Description: |
The signers looks at the computer screen on which there are 4 pictures. The assistant in the experiment shows one of the pictures
to the signer and s/he is supposed to describe that picture. The addressee has a sheet that includes the same pictures on
the screen. S/he is supposed to find and to show the picture described to the camera. There are 47 pictures. In the second
part, the signer sees 6 more pictures, S/he describes them to the addressee. The addressee just listens and if s/he doesn't
understand, s/he asks questions for clarification.
This corpus collects Turkish sign language TID data from children and also their parents. For this project, TID signers were
recorded performing different tasks narratives of short picture stories/cartoon clips and engaging in free conversation. These
recordings and their annotations are stored in this corpus.
MSar was born Deaf. Her parents are not Deaf. She has siblings who use Turkish Sign Language. She is married to a Deaf man.
She used to work, but now she is retired. She is an active member of the Deaf community in Istanbul. She used to be a theater
player with a group of Deaf people.
Sar was born Deaf. He has Deaf parents. He does not have any brothers or sisters. He is attending a primary school for the
Deaf 1st grade. His grandparents are not Deaf. He does not have a CI. He has been attending a rehabilitation center once a
week since he was 4 years old. He is using right hand while signing and writing.
Hukumran is a hearing person. He is a fluent signer. He prentended to be deaf in the experiments. He checked the order of
tasks and gave instructions when necessary.
Beyza is a hearing person. She recorded the sessions and conducted the experiments. She mainly used TID and tried not to use
speech.
Sevinc is a native Deaf signer. She was born in 1974. She has both Deaf parents. She has finished a high school for the hearing
and attened to Eskisehir Integreation Center for the Deaf, but she quitted it. She is an active member of the Deaf community.
She knows some other sign languages.
