Description:
Migaama is a Chadic language of the East branch spoken in the vicinity of Gurara at the centre of the Republic of Chad (Prefecture of Mongo). During the civil war, many Migaama people have left their villages. This has caused a breach in the hand-over of the language and young people prefer to speak Arabic or French. The documentation project is integrated in my PhD research, which focuses on the grammatical description of Migaama. I aim at a documentation of spoken Migaama, and especially of its literary genres, in order to produce a representative audio and film archive, which will be partly transcribed and translated in the short term; in medium term make a systematic grammatical description and in a long term to preserve this cultyural heritage accessible for the future Migaama generations and the scientific community.
